Obituary for Shirley Wagler (Ens)

Shirley Wagler (Ens)
WAGLER. Shirley Frieda (nee Ens)
May 21, 1945 – February 15, 2018

Shirley left our world peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the Dunnville War Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 15. Cherished wife and partner of Ross Wagler of Dunnville for 45 years and mother of Butch, Scot, Sean, Vanessa and Tammy McIntee, especially loved and missed by Vanessa; adored grandmother of Adam Wagler (Kylee), Bradly Rodger (Sara) and proud GG of Aaron, Bentley and Madison. Much loved and sorely missed sister of Evelyn Janke Kumpf (John), Tilly Rucks (Ron), Marvin Ens (Trudy), Carrie Stolk (Bill), Erie Jackson and sister-in-law of Dave Stewart (Joan, deceased). Survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins from Ontario to B.C. and numerous friends. Predeceased by parents Henry and Mary Ens, sister Dorothy, and great-grandson “Baby Ross”. Shirley had an inquisitive nature and intuitive insight into human dynamics. Her quick wit and sense of humour were ever present despite the health challenges that she faced throughout her life. Her spiritual side led to exploring various faiths and to reaching out to those in need around her. She was an avid reader and collector of books, as well as of china, crystal, coins, music, recipes and completely colour-matched outfits! Shirley volunteered her time over the years to the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and Loving Angels thrift stores. But first and foremost, she loved and had a special way with young children who gravitated to her. Her great grandchildren were the joy of her life and she will live on in their hearts. A very special thanks to her beloved doctor, Dr. Elizabeth Blake for her compassionate and loving care and to the wonderful nursing staff at the Dunnville Hospital who looked after us all during the final days. Thanks as well to Dr. Swaminath and the caregivers at Juravinski Cancer Centre. “There is a time for everything”, Shirley said in her last days. “Don’t grieve for me for too long.” In this spirit, everyone is welcome to join us in celebrating Shirley’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 305 Queen Street, Dunnville. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes cremation has taken place. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Dunnville War Memorial Hospital, the Juravinski Cancer Centre or to the charity of choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 52 Scott Street West, St. Catharines (between Ontario Street & South Service Road), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at
